Home Additions and Custom Renovations

Building onto a house somebody is still living in is a different discipline to starting on open ground. New West Building Company has been renovating and adding to homes across the Mountain West and New England since 2002, from single room additions through to full structural remodels.

Our Services

Renovation and Addition Specialists

Renovation work carries constraints new builds do not. Existing structure, unknown conditions behind finished walls, and often a family living on site throughout. We plan for that from the outset, with detailed pre-construction assessment and phasing that keeps disruption to a minimum without compromising the quality of the finished work.

What We Build

Empty room with white walls, wooden floor, exposed ceiling beams, sliding glass door to a balcony, and a closet door on the right.

Home Additions

New square footage built to match the existing home. Second stories, wing additions, garage conversions, and expanded living space that reads as original rather than added on.

Whole Home Renovations

Full interior and exterior remodels that bring an older home up to current standards for layout, efficiency, and finish while retaining the character worth keeping.

Accessory Dwelling Units

Guest houses, caretaker units, and detached living space, built to the same standard as the main residence and navigated through local permitting requirements.

Our Process

How We Work

01

Site Assessment

We walk the property and assess the existing structure, identifying what can be built on and what needs addressing before design work begins.

02

Pre-Construction Planning

Design coordination, permitting, and a phasing plan built around whether you are staying in the home during construction or moving out.

03

Construction & Communication

Active site management with clear protection of the areas not being worked on, and regular updates so you always know what is happening next.

04

Handover & Close-Out

A thorough walkthrough, complete punch list, and full documentation of the work carried out.

Where We Build

New West Building Company takes on renovation and addition projects across five markets in the Mountain West and New England. Older housing stock in Teton County, Park City, and rural Vermont and New Hampshire each brings its own structural and permitting quirks, and we have direct experience with all of them.

Why Us

The New West Difference

Renovation work exposes a contractor’s process faster than new construction does. Unknown conditions surface, schedules shift, and decisions have to be made on site without derailing the budget. New West Building Company has been handling that since 2002, across Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and New England, with the same disciplined approach on a single room addition as on a ground up custom home.

Construction is art and craft, but efficiently managing the project is a science. We hold ourselves and every subcontractor and partner we work with to the highest standard, delivering on time and at a level of quality that precedes our reputation. Every client gets on-demand access to schedule, budget, change orders, and finish selections through Procore, so you are never waiting on a phone call to find out where things stand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cost depends on square footage, complexity, and how much of the existing structure needs modifying. Additions requiring foundation or roof work carry a different profile to a straightforward single story extension. We assess the site before quoting so the figure you get is realistic.

Often yes, depending on the scope. We phase the work and seal off active areas where possible. For whole home renovations or anything involving major structural work, moving out is usually the better option and we will tell you honestly which applies to your project.

Most additions run between four and nine months from groundbreaking to completion, depending on size and permitting timelines. Whole home renovations typically take longer. We give you a realistic schedule during pre-construction rather than an optimistic one.

Almost always. Requirements vary between Teton County, Park City, and the New England towns we work in. We handle permitting as part of pre-construction so you are not navigating it yourself.

Yes. We regularly work alongside architects and designers brought in by our clients, and we can advise early on what the existing structure will and will not support.
