Preconstruction Services

Most of what a project costs is decided before anyone breaks ground. New West Building Company has been providing preconstruction services across the Mountain West and New England since 2002, and this is the stage where we can influence that most.

Our Services

Planning Before Building

Most cost problems on a construction project are created long before anyone breaks ground, in decisions made when the drawings are still changing. Our preconstruction and construction management work puts a builder’s perspective alongside your architect while those decisions are still cheap to revisit, covering budgeting, constructability review, permitting strategy, and trade procurement. Clients who engage us at this stage tend to start on site with a number they can rely on.

What We Provide

Architectural rendering of a Mountain Modern, single-story house with flat roofs, large windows, and a mix of stone and wood exterior finishes.

Budgeting and Cost Estimating

Detailed estimates that develop as the design does, so you always know what the current drawings actually cost to build.

Constructability Review

A builder's read on the drawings before they are finalized, flagging the details that are expensive, impractical, or slow to construct.

Permitting and Procurement

Approvals strategy and trade selection handled early, so long lead items and local authority timelines do not dictate your schedule.

Our Process

How We Work

01

Initial Assessment

We review the site, your brief, and any drawings that exist, then give you an honest view of feasibility and likely cost range.

02

Budget Development

Estimates are built up and refined as the design progresses, with cost implications flagged while changes are still inexpensive.

03

Design and Constructability Input

We work alongside your architect on buildability, materials, and detailing, resolving the problems that would otherwise surface on site.

04

Procurement and Handoff to Construction

Permitting, trade procurement, and scheduling are locked in so construction starts with everything in place rather than catching up.

Where We Build

New West Building Company provides preconstruction services across all five of our markets, from our base in Jackson to our offices in Alpine, Driggs, Park City, and New England. Local knowledge matters more at this stage than any other, since permitting timelines, trade availability, and site constraints differ considerably between Teton County, the Wasatch Back, and rural New England.

Why Us

The New West Difference

Preconstruction is where a contractor either earns their fee or quietly stores up problems for later. New West Building Company has been running this stage since 2002 across Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and New England, giving clients a realistic number early rather than an optimistic one that unravels on site.

Construction is art and craft, but efficiently managing the project is a science. We hold ourselves and every subcontractor and partner we work with to the highest standard, delivering on time and at a level of quality that precedes our reputation. Every client gets on-demand access to schedule, budget, change orders, and finish selections through Procore, so you are never waiting on a phone call to find out where things stand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Preconstruction covers everything that happens before construction starts, including budgeting, constructability review, permitting strategy, and trade procurement. It matters because most of what a project costs is determined at this stage, when changing course is still inexpensive.

As early as you can. Involving us while the design is still developing lets us flag cost and buildability issues before they are drawn in. Coming in after drawings are finished is still useful, but the opportunities to save money are narrower.

Preconstruction is the planning stage before work starts, while construction management covers running the project once it is underway. We provide both, and clients often engage us for preconstruction and then continue with us through construction.

It depends on the scope and how involved you want us to be. Some early conversations are simply part of getting to know a project, while more detailed budgeting and design work is a service in its own right. We will always be clear about what is and is not chargeable before you commit to anything.
